The Vampire Facial

The real name of this treatment made famous by Kim Kardashian is not a ghoulish Halloween “trick”, but rather a nourishing and stimulating “treat” for your skin! Microneedling, specifically when paired with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, is a medical procedure used for improving the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, stretch marks, and uneven skin tone. The needles create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to aid in the production of collagen and elastin.

What is Plate Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)?

PRP is used to treat a variety of cosmetic problems including fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, or “crepey” skin around the mouth and eyes. Popularly known as the “Vampire Facelift®”, PRP therapy utilizes the body’s own transforming properties to treat the effects of aging.

How does PRP work?

When your skin is cut, the platelets in your blood help to stop the bleeding and activate repairing measures to the damaged area with growth factors. These same growth factors are what PRP therapy utilizes and results by encouraging your body to begin producing collagen in the treated areas. The effect is a smoother and younger looking appearance. PRP is administered by taking a small amount of the patient’s blood and carefully separating it into a plate-rich injectable serum. Once prepared, the serum is injected or applied topically to the desired area using a micro-needler to administer the serum at various depths into the skin tissue. It may take a few weeks for the results to become fully visible, and a series is recommended for optimal results.

The best part? Results can last up to 18 months. Downtime is limited and redness can last any where from 1-4 days, depending on the depth and number of passes performed. Results are achieved with 1-3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
